Headed up to Holmdel NJ's PNC Bank Arts Center with Unkie C on Saturday to catch the great Counting Crows on their summer 2006 tour.
I haven't seen CC for awhile (last time was the Columbia MD show in July 2004), so I was pretty psyched. They opened the show with Colorblind, and that really set the mood for the evening. They launched into a 1 hour 20 minute set (kinda short, we thought) of songs that had an emphasis on loss. Adam Duritz was clearly affected by the death of his friend, some guy named Jonny Comras, and he spoke about him onstage and prepared the crowd for some interesting and sad versions of some classic CC tunes. And then that's exactly what they did. Great acoustic versions of Mr. Jones, Omaha and Recovering The Sattelites, a kickass jam of Miami and great renditions of Mrs Potter's Lullaby and St Robinison in his Cadillac Dream. Great, great songs. We have tickets for the upcoming Tweeter show in Camden as well.
Go get their latest live album if you don't have it, New Amsterdam: Live at Heineken Music Hall. It captures some great Counting Crows performances from 2003.
Goo Goo Dolls opened up, and kicked ass too. I was surprised. I was expecting a bunch of ballads, but they rocked. It was a cool show, on a evening with some truly beautiful weather.
To cap it all off, we ate some White Castle cheeseburgers on the drive back. The result: I was farting like a freakin' barnyard animal all day Sunday. Although that's kinda normal for me, those yummy little burgers gave me an endless (almost metered) supply of methane that lasted the whole day. Every time I released one, there was another one on deck, if you get my drift (and I know that you do). Pffftttt! MC
Counting Crows Suck. That singer sounds like a Bleeding Ulcer if it could sing.

Thanks for the comment, Jack. I guess that you don't enjoy the great music of CC. And that's cool. Everybody has their own musical tastes, and opinions.
And who cares if YOU like 'em, anyway. Go trash them on your own blog and Sniff Me!
Hehe...blog heckling is cool...
